Why I Love Being A Wedding Photographer In Scotland

As a Scot born and bred, I feel privileged to be able to live and work in the country of my birth. And as a Glasgow based wedding photographer, I’m lucky enough to capture wedding

photography all over Scotland. And when you’ve seen all that Scotland has to offer, you’ll wonder why anyone would want to get married anywhere else.

Still need some convincing? Below are my five top reasons (I struggled to keep it to five!) outlining why I love being a wedding photographer in Scotland.

1. I love being a wedding photographer in Scotland because…

I love a castle. Who doesn’t love castles? And Scotland boasts some of the finest castle wedding venues in Europe. Favourites include the multi-award-winning Carlowrie Castle with its ivy strewn walls, fairytale turrets and conical roofs.

Historically rich 15th century Dundas Castle is a five-star luxury wedding venue in a simply magical setting. And Botrurich Castle and its extensive grounds that sit on the banks of Loch Lomond. A historic castle alongside a new glass pavilion suite giving you the perfect blend of old-world charm and modern chic.

A little tip for you if you’re thinking of having a castle wedding in Scotland. Remember that castles can be dark in places so make sure you hire a professional wedding photographer with a good understanding of flash photography.

2. I love being a wedding photographer in Scotland because…

of its world-famous landscapes whose quiet beauty has inspired poets, musicians and writers for centuries. Where else can boast towering mountains, rolling hills, deep glens, glittering lochs, dense woodlands, rugged coastline and miles and miles of golden beaches? That all make amazing backdrops for wedding photos and are theperfect fit for my style of epic wedding photography.

3. I love being a wedding photographer in Scotland because…

it’s a fantastic country for barn weddings. 80% of Scotland’s land is given over to agriculture, creating the perfect setting for a farm and or barn wedding. Many offer a DIY approach to wedding planning allowing you to create a bespoke wedding, choosing your own suppliers. The best barn wedding venues will have an experienced wedding team who can guide you with planning. A favourite Scottish barn wedding venue of mine is Harburn Barn, a beautiful warm stone barn that is both rustic and modern and is surrounded by breathtaking landscapes.

4. I love being a wedding photographer in Scotland because…

of its wonderful cities. Despite it’s largely agricultural landscape Scotland has 9 cities all with their own distinct characters. The capital city Edinburgh has a medieval old town and an elegant Georgian new town with gardens and neoclassical buildings. Utterly photogenic, it’s a real favourite with Scottish wedding photographers. Glasgow is a port city on the River Clyde and is famed for its Victorian and art nouveau architecture. Today, it’s a cultural hub giving it a vibrant vibe quite unlike anywhere else. Needless to say, all of Scotland’s cities offer a host of wedding venues to suit every style, size and budget.

5. I love being a wedding photographer in Scotland because…

of its distinct and instantly recognisable culture. Famed for whisky distilleries, bagpipes, ceilidh bands and traditional Scottish dancing, traditionally Scottish dishes like haggis and its world class golf courses. All of these can be incorporated into your wedding with a ‘pick n mix’ approach to ensure that your guests get an authentic experience and a truly warm Scottish welcome.

So, if you’re thinking of getting married in Scotland, I hope this has been helpful to you. Scotland is an amazing place for a wedding but you don’t have to take my word for that. The most fun part of planning a wedding is getting to visit amazing wedding venues in beautiful locations so have fun with it.

And once you’ve found your perfect wedding venue in Scotland. You’ll be looking for an experienced Scotland wedding photographer. Feel free to get in touch.

I’d love to hear about your wedding plans…
